Climate Change in Marshall Islands

The Marshall Islands is one of the most vulnerable island countries in the world when it comes to the impacts of climate change. Many things are affected by climate change in Marshall Islands, but three things are most commonly affected: coral reefs, temperature, and agriculture.

The Marshall Islands is one of the most vulnerable island countries in the world when it comes to the impacts of climate change. Many things are affected by climate change in Marshall Islands, but three things are most commonly affected: coral reefs, temperature, and agriculture.

First, coral reefs are considered to be vital ecosystems not only for marine species habitat but they have to be stable enough to support the livelihoods of nations from the Pacific (like the Republic of the Marshall Islands) to the Indian Ocean (for example, the Maldives). Before ships came to our island, our coral reefs lived peacefully. Now they are affected a lot due to ships’ oil. Not only that but people nowadays don’t care about what they are doing when they dump chemical waste into the ocean.

Second, the temperature nowadays here in the Marshall Islands is very hot. Why? According to my own understanding -- and from my grandpa --
I know that global warming is affecting our island country. This comes from burning fossil fuel for things like cars and air conditioners. According to my grandfather, the weather before was very good and they didn’t really feel hot. It was cooler than today. Why? Because they didn’t use anything that produced carbon dioxide.

Lastly is agriculture -- farming. During 1800s through the 1900s our plants were healthy. But nowadays our agriculture has been affected by global warming because there is too much heat from the sun. That’s why the
Marshall Islands have a lack of agriculture.

In conclusion, I want to give some advice to the people of the Marshall
Islands. We need to stop using things that produce carbon dioxide. Also we need to stop cutting down trees and start using bicycles so that we don’t use cars. That way our agriculture, temperature, and our coral reefs can get back to normal.
