How Local Culture is Affected by Climate Change

If the climate begins to change it may start to have an effect on cultural aspects of life on our islands. Traditionally our houses were built on pylons to reduce the impacts from occasional flooding. In more recent times new structures have been built right on the ground without consideration that there may be flooding.

Therefore if we get sea level rise and coastal flooding there may be a severe impact on us and a majority of our settlements and other developments along the coast. Our arts industry also relies heavily on coastal resources such as plants, corals, shells, and trees. The natural resources may change in variety and abundance if climate change persists in the region. This could ultimately impact the livelihoods of people in the local arts and crafts industry.
